Aid Mimi Quijada’s Road to Health & Recovery
Asking for prayers and donations for Mimi Quijada, devoted mother, beloved preschool teacher, and friend as she struggles with an unexpected medical emergency. Given Mimi’s many financial obligations—inadequate medical insurance, college tuitions, mortgage, living expenses, etc. Mimi and her family need your help and support to cover the ever-increasing medical bills her treatment and recovery are incurring.
Mimi’s unexpected medical odyssey began on Thursday, May 29, 2025, when she was admitted to the University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center in Largo. Hospitalization was required because of excessive blood loss due to internal bleeding. During her hospitalization, she underwent an upper endoscopy to determine the origin of her internal bleeding. Mimi required blood transfusions to replace the depleted blood volume and components.
As the doctors looked for a cause for the bleeding, they discovered a mass in her colon, leading to a colonoscopy and subsequent procedure to surgically remove the mass. Following this procedure, Mimi was discharged from the hospital on June 7th to rest and recuperate at home with her family.
Unfortunately, she was only home for one day before being rushed back to the hospital via ambulance when the internal bleeding and blood loss began again. Mimi was moved to ICU for additional blood and plasma transfusions. Despite the hospital’s best efforts to control her blood loss, Mimi did not improve. The decision was made to transport Mimi to the ICU at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. Once admitted, she continued to receive additional blood treatments.
Georgetown’s ICU team intensively monitored her to assess her needs and create a treatment plan. Mimi endured many different types of testing, including an MRI. As Mimi’s health improved, she was discharged with a very extensive and expensive cadre of medications, home into the care of her family on June 19.
Then on Saturday, June 28th, Mimi was readmitted to Georgetown Hospital after experiencing extreme stomach and intestinal pain. She was released for intensive home care on July 5th. Her long-term treatment plan is still being assessed as her medical team continues to explore options for her.
However, the doctors have shared that her recovery is going to be a long one, and it will be many months before Mimi is able to resume her daily activities, caring for her family, home, and her job as a preschool teacher at Bradley Hills. With her sons still in college, the loss of her income is a big blow for their educational future. The Quijada family needs your help to keep the boys in school, keep their home, and to repay the current and future bills for Mimi’s care.
Any form of donation or support is greatly appreciated by Mimi and her family as they continue to stay united during this tough time.
