Words from the Castro Family: "In October, our lives changed drastically. I got the call from Miguel letting me know he was in the hospital. He was rushed from work to the emergency room in an ambulance, and I was shocked. If you know Miguel, you know he's always been the image of good health and the strong pillar of our family, and I couldn't even begin to imagine what could have happened.
After multiple trips back to the hospital, we still had so many questions. Doctors initially thought Miguel had suffered from a minor stroke, but being the persistent advocate for our family and knowing in my gut that there had to be something more going on, I kept pushing for more answers and help. Doctors finally realized he was suffering from something even more devastating, Guillain-Barré Syndrome.
After receiving the initial treatments for a week at the hospital, Miguel was finally starting to feel better and able to return home; however, he still needs lots of supervision and care. It was in the best interest of our family for me to take a break from work so that I can be there to support not only our two young children with special needs, but also be there to care for Miguel so he can continue to recover and receive the necessary treatments and therapies.
During this challenging time, our focus has been on getting Miguel better, but it is impossible to ignore the financial strains and obstacles. We are trying our best to avoid any interruptions in therapy and maintain the routines and environment we have worked so hard to build for our children."
