Aid Michael Gilmer's Journey to Health

Hello, my name is Jackie Gilmer. My husband, Michael Gilmer “Big Mike”, was diagnosed with stage three esophageal cancer back in December. He has completed chemotherapy and radiation treatment, and on 5/21/25, he had a gastric esophagectomy surgery, where they removed 2/3 of his esophagus and pulled his stomach up to replace it.

On 6/2/25, he went back into surgery due to complications and had to have it reversed and more of his esophagus removed due to necrotizing tissue. What is left of his esophagus has been bypassed out his neck in order for things to heal. He has two feeding tubes to administer nutrition and medication. He will have to have the original surgery redone in 6+ months when things have healed enough to do so.

Mike’s medical bills are covered, but I have taken an unpaid medical leave to help navigate this life-changing event and help get him the care he needs. Between normal monthly expenses, gas for travel, living expenses and preparing for a third surgery in the near future things are tight. Thank you for your kindness and support.
