Aid Matias' Journey to Overcome Cancer

My name is Claudia Ramirez. I’m the mother of Matias Maturana who is going through yet another trying time as he is battling cancer for the second time. Let me tell you a little of Matias' history.

In 2020, at the age of 17, Matias was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma stage 4 due to a tumor that was found in his brain. Thankfully, it was caught in time and the tumor was surgically removed and he completed chemotherapy and radiation. In 2021, we received the incredible news that he was in remission. The cancer was completely gone, and we moved to Chile so Matias could continue his dreams of becoming a psychologist. He has completed his third year to attain his bachelor’s at Santo Tomas University. Matias continued with his examinations, but regrettably, an MRI in June 2024 revealed the discovery of a second tumor.

Immediately, we gathered whatever money we had and traveled to New York where he was initially treated. On August 19, 2024, Matias had surgery and a piece of the tumor was biopsied. Three hours later, they confirmed Matia’s cancer had returned - Medulloblastoma yet again.

Matias will need to complete an aggressive treatment plan to battle this cancer. Which would mean temporarily living in New York, specifically close to the hospital, to be able to have his treatment and in case of severe effects of the treatment be rushed and treated immediately.

We arrived in New York with nothing but the clothes we have and the little money we put together before we left Chile. We will need a place to live, clothes for the upcoming winter and to be able to pay for utilities. I am his primary caretaker as his father passed away a few years ago and I will not be able to work to provide for us during this time.

Asking for help is very hard for us, and we wouldn’t be asking if we really didn’t need it. Any donations are greatly appreciated and will go directly to taking care of Matias' needs.
