Aid Mary Vaughn's Journey to Overcome Cancer
Donation protected
As some of you know, on August 16, 2024 our mother, Mary Vaughn, was diagnosed with an extremely rare and aggressive form of cancer known as Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer. She went in for a common “goiter” removal surgery on her thyroid, but the surgeon found it to be cancer instead. After doing research and reaching out to ATC support groups, it seemed the best option in possibly fighting this nasty cancer was to fly to MD Anderson in Houston, TX. For the past 10 days my mom has went through countless scans and testing to work up a plan for treatment. She has 4 different specialized doctors and a team of medical staff working to meticulously craft the best treatment for our mother. With how dangerous and rare this cancer is we feel confident she is in the right place for care. She will be staying in Texas for 6 weeks to receive chemo and radiation, and from our understanding will be flying back and fourth to Houston every 6 weeks after for targeted treatment once radiation is complete. The flights to and from, housing for treatment, and treatment itself over the next few months is going to get quite expensive. She is loved by so many, and such a valuable piece to our family, that we are willing to do any and everything to get her the best care possible. Any little bit will be helpful and much appreciated. Thank you.
