Marisa LeGrand is a strong 26-year-old woman who serves as the glue for her family often providing emotional and financial support. She brings light to her family, friends, coworkers, and community. She has dedicated her life to health and wellness. Marisa is loyal and strong. She is the most selfless person we know. Whether it’s being the best aunt to her brother and best friends’ children or supporting her friend’s new business, Marisa always shows up for others. But now, Marisa and her mother need us to show up for them.
The LeGrand family has been faced with another life changing tragedy. On the early morning of July 9th, Marisa unexpectedly had a stroke and was transported by ambulance to the hospital. Despite her working out daily, the doctors found a blood clot in her brain. The cause of the stroke remains unknown. The clot will take time to break up and dissolve. She will be going to a rigorous in-patient rehabilitation center for a week to continue with intensive speech, occupational, and physical therapy. The neurologist said the first 6 months are imperative to her recovery. She will have to dedicate long hours each day to therapy, making her ability to go to work impossible. So, the months ahead will be extremely challenging for both Marisa and her mother (who also is forced to take unpaid leave to care for Marisa). Our goal is to provide financial support to both Marisa and her mom so they can focus on her optimal recovery. For those of you who don’t know, this tragic health incident comes off the cuff of what feels like an impossibly long string of loss, grief, and heartbreak for the LeGrand family.
In December 2022, Sandy lost her fiancé to COVID just weeks after becoming newly engaged. Two weeks later her uncle, who she considered a father and Marisa often referred to as her Papa, passed away from COVID and Alzheimer’s. Just months later, Marisa’s
grandmother and Sandy’s mother unexpectedly had a stroke. Without hesitation, Sandy was forced to take unpaid leave, moved her mother into her home, provided round the clock care, and drove her mother to daily outpatient therapy. Marisa stepped in as the caring, selfless daughter that she is and helped her mother and grandmother adjust to this new normal. And just when the storm began to calm for this mother/daughter duo, Marisa’s father suddenly passed away from a heart attack. Marisa and her mother were once again drowned in heartache, only to now face the struggles and setbacks due to Marisa’s health scare.
Marisa’s and Sandy’s strength and resilience inspire us every day, but the financial burden of medical expenses, monthly bills, and gas to and from outpatient care weighs heavily on the Legrand women, especially since they both will have to take unpaid medical leave from work.
“The sun will come out tomorrow,” but the bills must be paid today. We have launched this GoFundMe account to help cover daily expenses, ultimately allowing Marisa and Sandy to focus solely on the recovery process. Any amount contributed is greatly appreciated. Please continue to pray for God to heal and restore Marisa fully and for Sandy’s continued strength and resilience. Thank you for your generosity.
