Delaney and her husband Joe had a very scary emergency with their beloved dog Mako this week and we are hoping to help alleviate some of the financial burden of saving Mako’s life!
Wednesday late morning, Mako started presenting more severe symptoms than just mild GI upset and started deteriorating rather quickly. Delaney was able to rush her to the Emergency Vet, where she was swiftly diagnosed with Acute Hemorrhagic Diarrhea Syndrome (also known as Hemorrhagic Gastroenteritis). Unfortunately without veterinary intervention, these cases are often fatal, but when caught and treated quickly, dogs can make a full recovery. Furthermore, the cause of AHDS is often unknown as there are several potential reasons that could trigger the onset. It is more common in smaller dogs but no dog is immune to contracting it.
Mako was admitted for hospitalization and the team began treatment, including IV fluids, IV antibiotics, GI Ultrasound, Anal Foley to catch the continued hemorrhaging, and drugs to help her bowels.
Mako was fortunately able to be released Thursday night and is on the path to recovery, but she still has oral antibiotics and a prescription diet to follow to protect her temporarily fragile GI tract.
Delaney and Joe are overwhelmed with love and support for Mako and I
know they would be grateful for any donations.
