Hello freinds! Our dear friend and her husband, Lisa & Darrell Badger has lost her barn tragically in a tornado March 14th last night. Which fell on top of her horses and they sustained substantial injuries. Please read her story and consider donating to help cover immediate costs associated. Such as vet bills and new hay/alfalfa and medical supplies.
The good news is, we're alive.
But last night at 10:30, without warning, a tornado hit our farm. Our brand new 84×144 horse barn was destroyed.
My precious horses were inside the arena end of the barn. Columbia was standing in the wreckage when we finally got to her, stunned. I had to scramble her over wreckage to get her out, but she was calm and trusting, as she always is. Her injuries didn't appear serious. Ronin was no where to be found.
Darrell found Tuffy covered under part of the collapsed roof. He was very injured and we couldn't lift the roof off of him. I called 911, I was in shock and panicking, I'm still shocked. It was still stormy, lightening and rain in the dark. My pajamas soaked. Me crying and not doing well. Darrell got in the backhoe to try to lift the roof off of Tuffy while I tried to keep him calm. But all of a sudden Tuffy scrambled hard to get up, and he did, and stomped on my leg in the process. We pulled him out and tied him next to Columbia. He was a bloody mess. Ronin was gone. Darrell and I started calling and searching. We finally found him at the far end of the dressage arena where I tie all of them every day. He was stunned, I walked right up to him in the darkness, like he was waiting for me to find him. . I brought him back and saw several nasty cuts on his sides and scraped legs. He got those escaping. The neighbors arrived from a mile away to help. Good bless them. Then the firefighters. They had to cut through downed trees to get to us. All I wanted was a vet. We were finally able to connect to an emergency mobile vet. Our power was out so the fire fighters arranged for us to meet the vet at the fire station. My 3 house trailer was not destroyed, do we loaded the three and hauled them to meet at the for station.
Tuffy took about 120 stitches. A very large neck wound, deep lacerations on his hips, and a broken orbital bone. It just broke my heart watching him.
Ronin is bruised all over, some cuts, and all his legs are scraped. He will be sore for awhile and hopefully will be fine.
The vets (3) worked on Tuffy and the others until 4 a.m.
My new LQ horse trailer is 100 yards from where I parked it last.
Everything on this farm is just about trashed, except for our house, and the little stable barn behind the house. Why did everything get smashed except our house and the little stable?
All I can do now is cry. But thankful were alive.
It's 6 a.m. and I'm now going to try to nap before the sun rises and we see all the devastation.
