Aid Lauren Grossman in aftermath of severe stroke
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Kris Bruno. I am helping to raise funds for my dear friends’ daughter, Lauren Grossman. On August 14, 2021 Lauren suffered a severe stroke that blindsided her family, because she had no associated risk factors previously. Lauren’s fourteen year old son was alone with her at the time of her stroke. Realizing something was terribly wrong with his mother, he called for help. Now, at the young age of 40 Lauren is facing the unfathomable challenge of recovering from a severe stroke that has left her with extreme physical and cognitive difficulties. Her recovery road is long and uncertain, but she is fighting hard to gain as much independence as she can. Lauren is a single mother who was raising her two children, Tyler (age 14) and Lena (age 3), when her life took this unexpected turn. As much as she is fighting for herself, she is fighting even more for them.
Lauren is currently completely dependent on her parents, Michele and Dirk Grossman, who along with overseeing all of Lauren’s daily needs, are also taking care of the daily needs of Tyler and assisting with Lena’s needs. In the wake of their mother’s stroke, Tyler and Lena’s lives have been upended, and they are struggling to come to terms with what happened to their mother.
After spending five days in the intensive care unit at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Lauren went to the stroke unit for an additional five days before being transferred to Kessler Rehabilitation Hospital to begin the arduous journey of healing. Lauren spent five weeks at Kessler. On September 28, 2021, she was discharged to her parents’ care. Michele and Dirk had just sold their home and were under contract to buy a new home, right before Lauren had the stroke. Because the new home was located in a 55+ community, they had to walk away from the purchase in order to become Lauren’s caregivers. They are temporarily renting a house, while looking for a more suitable home for themselves that will accommodate Lauren, Tyler, and Lena as well. Lauren’s doctors are recommending physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy. Additional testing will be required as Lauren progresses.
Lauren has always been kind and giving, possessing a smile that lights up any room she enters. She selflessly took care of her two children, all while working hard helping her father at his deli. In her limited free time, she enjoyed reading, and taking long walks. Unfortunately, she isn’t able to do any of these activities at the moment, and the long-term prognosis for a meaningful recovery is grim.
I am asking for help for Lauren. She has a mountain of medical bills coming her way, and requires daily in home assistance. Her living quarters require immediate adjustments to accommodate her physical and cognitive impairments. Her health insurance does not cover all of her expenses. The funds raised here will be used to help pay Lauren’s out-of-pocket medical expenses, costs associated with adapting her home, and will also assist with her monthly bills, and her children’s monthly financial needs. The goal is to provide as much support as possible to ensure Lauren has everything she needs for a successful recovery.
Thank you for your kindness in considering a donation to help Lauren in her time of need. If you are not able to financially help at this time, please share Lauren’s story with others who may be able to provide a donation, and with your social media contacts. Please keep Lauren and her children in your prayers. May her burden be lightened by the good will of others. Thank you so much.
