Help to Aid Kristina and Jess During This Heartbreaking Time
Spende geschützt
Hello, my name is Dana Gillett and I have started a GoFundMe for my daughter, Kristina and son, Jess. They lost their only son and my only grandson, on May 14, 2025. I would like to help raise money in order to assist them for funeral expenses, any unforeseen medical costs (that the insurance might not cover), and the recovery time out of work for my daughter. As the State of Washington will only cover a small fraction of what she makes. And for Family Mental Health Support/Counseling for their loss. Below, I have written their story:
On April 1, 2025, my daughter and son's world was rocked. During my daughter's routine pregnancy appointment and 20-week scan, turned into an emergency. My daughter’s cervix was open, and her water bag was bulging out. The following day the doctors needed to put her rescue cerclage in. This was needed to keep from going into labor and delivering my grandson even earlier than she did. About 9 days later my daughter, Kristina noticed that something was wrong, and that she was leaking fluid. The doctors tested it, and it was positive for amniotic fluid. She was then admitted to the high-risk L&D for preterm labor. The hospital started her on a magnesium drip and steroids for lung development. Her water broke just a few short days later on April 14th. From there they transferred her to Tacoma General Hospital. She was able to keep Wyatt in an additional 10 days before her water broke before she gave birth at just 23 weeks and 4 days along. Wyatt William Nelson was born on April 24, 2025, weighing in at 1.5 pounds.
Immediately after birth, Wyatt was rushed to the NICU, where he spent the last 21 days receiving critical respiratory support and life-saving care. Every moment in the hospital was filled with fear, prayer, and hope as our little fighter faced. The stress, fear and anxiety that comes with having a baby in the NICU is exhausting and overwhelming.
One day things look great, and you feel very positive, and the next your baby has a setback and you feel scared again and sad and helpless. His first two weeks he was progressing so well, and then last week there were several huge setbacks. Wyatt developed a serious blood infection. The doctors at the hospital did everything that they could to save him. But the blood infection was so rapid that it had taken over his tiny body. This isn't something I would wish on anyone. On May 14, 2025, 0ur lives were shattered. While his mommy and daddy held him for the last time, little Wyatt passed away peacefully in their arms.
