As most of you know, Kim has faced a lot of medical challenges in the last few years. Last spring she was faced with losing her vision and lost her job as her FMLA ran out. She applied for Social Security disability, but the process could take 8 to 9 months. While she was approved for SSDI in February, and they began to pay some past bills Kim was hospitalized on February 27th to remove a large portion of bone from her left foot. The money they had just put in savings was quickly spent on a wheelchair ramp for their house and a car that Kim could transport in.
Kevin‘s insurance through UHC has been pretty helpful but their new plan year began July 1, which requires $3,500 for deductible and out-of-pocket expenses. In addition, their home suffered storm damage, which is requiring a new roof, gutters and siding which has a $1,000 deductible and $900 for repairs to their fence that was damaged with the winds in March and to finish off their front porch after the installation of the wheelchair ramp.
Of course on July 25, they received the news that Kim would require amputation of her left leg from the knee down. That requires additional hospital as well as inpatient rehabilitation stays. New orthopedic shoes and a prosthetic limb, which will not be covered by insurance. They are also trying to pay over $2,000 that they still owe the ophthalmologist from last fall.
Therefore, a few people have suggested a GoFundMe to help them raise some money to offset these costs
Please feel free to share this, and hopefully we can fulfill their goal to help these unexpected expenses.
