Hello, my name is Hannah Thornton. I am starting this fundraiser for my cousin Kensi and her family. We are asking for any prayers and donations for Kensi and her family after an incident put her in the ICU.
What We Know:
As Kensi was heading home at night on her scooter, she was found in the middle of the road seizing. An ambulance was called. She was admitted to the hospital, Monday, October 27th, under intensive care, where she was sedated and put on assisted breathing. She had died briefly but was resuscitated. The injury resulted in a temporal skull fracture on her right side and a traumatic brain injury, leading to cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) leakage from her ear, which was ruptured, along with a cerebral contusion and seizures. As of October 30th, Kensi was taken off ventilation and is able to breathe on her own. She has also regained consciousness; however, she is suffering from anterograde amnesia and is unable to remember what happened. She still has CSF leakage and is connected to a feeding tube.
Possible Future Treatments:
Due to cerebral swelling, there are currently uncertainties about surgery. However, if the CSF leakage continues, there may be a need to put a plate in her skull. There is also the possibility of speech and physical therapy.
Why are we asking?:
After a prolonged stay in the hospital and the uncertainties of what's to come, the family is struggling. Kensi's parents, Troy Thornton and Julie Wilkins, have been taking time off work to stay with her. Along with this and hospital bills, the family has been under some financial stress. The funds will be used to help pay for Kensi's hospital bills. Any remaining funds will go to her parents to help her family recover from any financial loss caused during this time.
How You Can Help:
Any donations and prayers are greatly appreciated! Kensi is fourteen years old. She's a goofy big hearted, loving young woman. She loves God and spending time with friends. Help make sure Kensi gets the care she needs and gets back to her life and loved ones. Send love to Kensi and her family! Thank you for your time, prayers, and any help.
