Penelope has come home!! But, so much more is to come for her long recovery. We are asking for help from everyone, family and friends, to help us get the funds we need to help our baby girl Anything helps and we are so appreciative of all your help!

Our Story:

On March 14th The Atwood family began a whirlwind of hospital stays and life threatening adventures culminating in the emergency c-section birth, seven weeks early, of their daughter. They could use the help of their friends, family and community as they navigate the next steps with a baby in the NICU and Kassie recovering from the trauma and birth of their daughter. On March 15th Kassie sustained a fall which lead to a life flight from Tooele, UT to the University to Utah hospital. Once admitted it was determined that not only had she broken her pelvis but she was suffering from diabetic ketoacidosis and a pulmonary embolism(blot clot) in her lung. She was quickly moved to the ICU. After a three-day stay in the ICU Kassie was transferred to another unit where she stayed for 3 more days before being released, to only return five days later to the ICU again. This time again with ketoacidosis as well as severe pre-eclampsia. The next couple days turned into a blur as doctors attempted to stabilize Kassie enough to deliver the baby. On March 29, Penelope was delivered via emergency c-section and immediately placed in the NICU. Kassie was then sent back to the ICU for another day for additional care before she was able to be moved to the postpartum care unit. When transferred she was able to finally see Penelope 2 days after her birth. 5 days later Kassie was able to return home but will endure months of physical therapy to be able to return to work and normal activity with her family. Penelope will spend the next 6-7 weeks growing and reaching milestones until she can have the opportunity to come home with her family. The medical bills are mounting and adding to an already stressful situation. The family would appreciate any help you can give, even a simple prayer on their behalf. Thank you.
