Hello, my name is Kanasha, everyone calls me KK though. I am a 35-year-old, hard-working woman who has been through a lot, but I am currently facing a time in my life that I am scared and do not know what exactly to do. My family is in Alabama. I moved to Houston, TX in 2019, met my significant other, and have been in Houston since. Around Halloween, I started having an excruciating and uncomfortable pain in my ear and didn't know what the problem was because I've always had issues with my ears but nothing like this. I started losing my hearing, and it never seemed to get any better. I eventually went to the ER because I couldn't handle the pain and agony any longer and needed answers. I was quickly told I had swimmer's ear and sent on my way.
I took ear drops and antibiotics, but after about 2 weeks of not getting any better, being in pain, and getting no results, my roommate had given me the strongest mouthwash I had ever tried in my life! It is so strong it can be diluted up to 6 times! Miraculously, the next morning my hearing was slowly coming back, the swelling in my face was starting to go down, and my pain level was subsiding. I, personally, believe my roommate unknowingly saved my life. After about 2 more weeks, everything was just fine since October, and it was now March. So I had been in pain and dealing with all these unknowns for about 5 months.
One morning, I woke up and my face was, yet again, swollen, my hearing was lost or starting to be lost again, and my ear was giving me so much pain again!
My best friend came over and took me right back to the ER AGAIN. The doctor who saw me, I explained that I had come a few weeks prior and told her that I was told I had swimmer's ear and told her about the mouthwash and how I was beginning to think an abscess was the issue. I was put on an IV and was overwhelmed with antibiotics for a few hours.
The doctor came back, closed the door, and told me my suspicion was correct. I had an abscess and would need to have emergency surgery because it's so bad and has made its way to my brain and needed an MRI since I already had a CT, which was how they found the abscess. I'm so scared at this time, and I have no family and no support other than my friends that had brought me to the hospital. I couldn't call my spouse because he was working and his phone was off, so I was alone and scared. After surgery, the surgeon said everything went well, and he tried his best to get the infection out without going towards the brain, and so far, everything went the way he hoped. He then told me that they also found 2 blood clots that were by the brain that they couldn't see because of the abscess.
They aren't sure how many blood clots I have because they weren't looking for the blood clots; they were just making sure they got the infection out. I was scared because I wasn't sure how serious or how many blood clots or what else or the seriousness I would have to conquer. I got released from the hospital and put on blood thinners and antibiotics that are so expensive that I might as well just be put to sleep. The hospital has helped, and I'm to take 2 blood thinners a day, and I'm supposed to see how it works and see what issues I am currently having and what exactly can and can't be helped. I also have to pay to see the doctors and need to get my meds and follow the instructions and go from there. I'm terrified and need help because I can't afford anything and need help, and I know I'm sick and wouldn't usually ask for help, but I do not know what else to do or where else to turn. So please, can someone help me and show that there's a reason to have faith and that I have a fighting chance and I'm not alone?
