Aid Kaitlynn and Her Children Through Recovery

A Nurse, a Single Mother and a Fighter — this is Kaitlynn’s Journey to Recovery and we are here to tell her story.

Friends and family,

We are reaching out today with heavy hearts and hope to share Kaitlynn’s story — a devoted mother of two young children, a dedicated nurse, and a loved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend to many. Kaitlynn’s life was forever altered on the night of July 1st, in a way none of us could have ever imagined.

After returning home from a concert, Kaitlynn had a disagreement with a friend. Overwhelmed with emotion, she sat down in her gravel driveway to collect herself. Moments later, in an unimaginable turn of events, the same friend returned—driving up the driveway at full speed—and struck Kaitlynn with her vehicle, pinning her beneath it.

She remained trapped under the car for nearly 20 minutes, her body crushed and burning from the heat of the engine, as she struggled to breathe. Her heart stopped. Emergency responders miraculously brought her back to life, but the damages were heartbreaking.

Her injuries include:

* Third-degree burns on her leg and lower abdomen

* Both femurs broken

* A fractured and shifted pelvis

* Multiple broken ribs

* A punctured lung

* A broken arm and clavicle

* Significant memory loss and impaired vision

Kaitlynn was placed on a ventilator and remained in critical condition for days. Though she is now breathing on her own and able to speak, her memory comes and goes. She is relearning basic functions like walking, feeding herself, and even recognizing parts of her life that have slipped from her mind. Her vision has diminished significantly. She faces months of of rehabilitation if not a year before being able to walk and return to her new normal.

She has a long road ahead, and one thing is certain: she will never be the same after this traumatic event. As a result of her injuries, Kaitlynn will be unable to return to her nursing career or care for her children in the way she once did. Atleast not for a significant amount of time. She will be wheelchair-bound for the time being, and dependent on others for daily tasks.

Despite all of this, she is alive, and for that, we are deeply thankful. Kaitlynn’s strength, faith, and will to survive are nothing short of remarkable.
