FRIENDS, FAMILY, BROTHERS & SISTERS, PLEASE READ
On behalf of Orlando Firehouse 9, we are reaching out on behalf of our friend and brother in service, Juwan Vanburen. First and foremost Juwan is a devout family man to his fiancée Alexis, His Son Juwan Jr, His Stepdaughter Allie, and His Daughters Annijah & Amorah. Juwan is also a proud member of the City of Orlando Fire Department and serves our country in the United States Coast Guard Reserve. He has dedicated his life to protecting others, but now he is the one who needs our help.
Recently, Juwan was hospitalized for an ongoing respiratory issue which has worsened within the last month. Unfortunately, he is now being treated for what Doctors fear is lymphoma that has spread to both of his lungs. Now as you can imagine, this has taken a tremendous toll on his health, his career, and his family. The uncertainty has been overwhelming—countless appointments, testing, and the daily stress of not knowing what lies ahead.
On top of this, Juwan and his wife just welcomed their beautiful baby girl, Amorah, into this world just one month ago. And unfortunately, what should be a time filled with joy and new beginnings has instead been clouded by the stress of mounting medical bills, reduced income, and the struggle to make ends meet while focusing on his health and family.
For context, to date our understanding is that Juwan is unfortunately NOT eligible for the Firefighter Cancer Claim benefit via the Florida Heart Bill (due to not having 5 years of service with our organization.) And as such, he has utilized nearly all of his PTO, is trying to re-apply to the sick bank, is dealing with workers compensation, and the medical expertise of multiple doctors. All of which he is trying to figure out on the fly while balancing the duties of being a family man; despite much uncertainty.
So Brothers and Sisters, we leave you with this: Juwan has ALWAYS been the first to step up when others are in need—whether it was rushing into danger as a firefighter, standing watch as a Coast Guard reservist, or simply being a dependable friend and family man. Now, it is our turn to step up for him.
We are asking for your support to help Juwan and his family during this difficult time. Every donation, no matter how small, will go directly toward medical expenses, household bills, and providing stability for his family and newborn baby. If you are unable to give financially, please consider sharing this page to spread the word.
Let’s come together as a community to lift up one of our own. Juwan has always been there for us—let’s be there for him.
Thank you for your generosity, prayers, and support.
