Aid Josiah’s Treatment Journey at MD Anderson
Donation protected
UPDATE 10/29: Josiah’s surgery went so well, God is so good!! His surgeon is confident that 95% of his tumor was removed! Aside from some loss of vision in one eye, Josiah is doing extremely well. Thank you to everyone who has been so generous, it’s taken a huge weight off of him! Post-op plans include a month long stay in Houston for radiation and chemo, unfortunately. This specialized clinic wants all treatment to be done in-house. So their travel expenses will continue to climb. So far, 3 separate trips have costed roughly $8,000. Please consider donating to help them afford the stay for further treatment.
Hi everyone. As you may know already, Josiah has been fighting a battle against Glioblastoma since just before his wedding in October of 2019. His initial surgery was a success, clearing out nearly the entire tumor. After several combined years of chemo, radiation, and wearing headgear, MRI scans were showing no new growth. He has defied all odds against him with this diagnosis.
However, this September, Josiah’s routine MRI showed a new tumor that has grown dangerously fast and is now infiltrating new and hard to reach areas of the brain. Josiah and Lauren are now in Houston, TX at the MD Anderson Cancer Center to work with one of the top neuro surgeons in the country. They are specialized in this specific type of cancer. It has been decided that another surgery is the best course of action. This means spending a lot more time in Texas for pre-op appointments, and then the surgery itself on October 15. Not to mention the recovery time that will be necessary before flying home.
With this has come a LOT of unexpected financial stress as their work schedules have been disrupted by traveling. Here’s a rough breakdown of just one week of staying in Houston:
Hotel: $1200
Car rental (for one weekend)/Ubers: $300
One way Spirit flight for both: $340
Copay PER doctor visit: $75
Consider these costs tripled by the end of their stay. This is a lot to worry about on top of the immense stress of a brain surgery. Medical bills are not factored into this, and it’s unknown how much will be owed out of pocket after insurance coverage on all visits, imaging, and surgery.
Please consider helping any bit you can, whether it be enough for a meal, a night at the hotel, or an Uber ride. If you are not able to give financially, your PRAYER means just as much as anything. We are trusting God through this all.
