Aid Jon's Family During His Recovery
Donation protected

I'm Shannon Ojeda, Jon’s wife. Last week (6/3/25), Jon took a severe fall at work. Jon was working his normal day and just doing his end-of-the-day routine, which consisted of going down to where the paint line tanks are kept. Jon had to use a ladder to get to a valve to shut them off. The ladder slipped out from under him. He tried to catch himself and hit his left side off a cement wall and landed on the grate below. That was about a 4 ft fall. Jon was trapped 9 ft down below ground level. His leg was like mush and couldn’t move.
Once he was found, 9-1-1 was called. The fire department, EMTs, and the police showed up. Two EMTs, three firefighters, and two police officers climbed down into “the pit” where Jon was. The pit is 9 ft below ground level, 10 ft long, and about 3 ft wide. All those emergency personnel had to lift Jon over their heads after they got him on a board, and three more officers, two firefighters, and two EMTs had to pull him from the others. The injury was considered a level one trauma, and he was rushed to Mercy Hospital. Jon broke his femur near the femoral artery. His femur was detached and shifted.
On 6/4/25, Jon was brought into surgery to have a rod (or two), two bands, and six screws placed in his thigh to hold the rods in place. He was released from the hospital on 6/5/25 with pain medication and instructions to remain at home, rest, continue follow-up appointments, and start therapy in a couple of weeks.
We are only asking for support to help maintain bills (rent, electric, gas, car payments, phones, insurance) until Jon is able to return to work fully. As of his appointment Wednesday, he could be out as minimal as 5 months to as long as a year.
Jon has always been a hard worker to provide for our family. Jon is a proud father/stepfather of six kids and a proud grandpa to a 5-year-old grandson. Being laid up like this is hard on him.
I am working but not making enough on my own to keep up with everything, and I don’t want Jon to worry about bills and rush himself to get back to work too soon due to his injury and past heart attacks.
Any little bit will help and be greatly appreciated.
All funds will help maintain our household so that Jon isn’t worrying about bills and is able to focus more on his healing
As of today (6/14/25), the swelling and bruising has come down a little bit. Jon has been relaxing in his favorite chair for over a week. He’s been able to get up and down the stairs to go to bed and use the bathroom with assistance of a cane and me and our daughters. Our grandson tries helping so much. He’ll bring grandpa snacks or drinks. Jon’s going a bit stir crazy being at home because it’s too painful to get in and out of our cars and he has a walker to get around with. But thanks to one of my cousins, we now have a wheelchair to help him with more mobility outside of the house. If anyone knows Jon like I do, you know he won’t want to be like this for long. But I’m making him take it easy and let us help him more. He’s finally starting to get that.
update:
Jon’s feeling good! Moving a little better everyday
staples out today and more x-rays done. The rod goes directly into his femur. As of right now, he’ll be out of work at minimum another 5 weeks. Then another recheck with the surgeon. Physical therapy starting next week
