Hi, I’m Sharon Almanza, daughter of Jesus and Virginia Barrera. On July 1, 2025, my father turned 77 blessed years, and on July 2, 2025, he complained of a severe headache and had signs of a stroke. The ambulance took him to Memorial Hermann Hospital in the Medical Center in Houston. My dad was diagnosed with having a stroke, and when they did an MRI to see if any damage was done to his brain, that is when they found a tumor on his brain. Due to the medication he had been on, they had to delay the surgery to remove it for a week. The pain, confusion, and discomfort continued, and the nausea and vomiting became aggressive. My dad was a very active man prior to this incident. He loved to do his yard work and be in his flower and vegetable gardens. He was scheduled to have surgery on July 8, 2025, but due to how ill he was that day, it had to be rescheduled, and they were able to perform surgery on July 10, 2025. The tumor was malignant, and due to his age and history of strokes, they felt it was important to have a light half dose of chemotherapy right away. Then, 2 days later, another chemo procedure was done. The confusion, aggressive behavior, and anxiety were all part of the outcome after. There was so much acid reflux and severe heartburn that he had to go through and not be seen by a GI doctor till after being released. Their priority was the tumor (lymphoma cancer). By the grace of God, he is now at home as of July 19, 2025. He now has to find an oncologist that accepts his insurance as well as a GI. My father will no longer be able to work, and my mother has a terminal illness called scleroderma and isn’t able to work either. Any and all donations will go towards helping them with their medical expenses and food and utilities. I am the only child with a very supportive husband and family, and we’re taking these days and cherishing each one. There is a lot of medication and medical treatment they both need to have. I’m on here to ask for help so they won’t feel as if they are burdening anyone because their pride is too high to ask for any help. Dad will start speech and physical therapy next week, and mom sees different doctors monthly.
With all being said, I am asking for prayers and help in any way your heart may. Thank you, and may God bless you all! With the power of faith and prayers, they will continue to receive all the medical assistance that is necessary for them to recover.
