Aid Jessica's Family in Crisis: Leg Amputation

Hi, my name is Jessica Bailey and I'm starting this go fund me to help support my mom, Barbara Mahone, and my Aunt, Carrol Wiley. My mom went into the hospital in August of 2024 for a femoral bypass. Due to complications from the surgery and subsequent ecoli infections from her time in the ICU she has had to endure 18 separate surgeries and has been in the hospital or rehabilitation center ever since. Most recently she had to have her left leg amputated because the infection was spreading too fast to control.

Medicare has stopped paying for her treatment and she was given the choice between being sent home with no ability to care for herself, make it to doctors appointments, or receive the physical therapy she needs to learn to live as an amputee and to get her strength back from being bed ridden for over 10 months or stay in the hospital as a cash pay patient with assistance from Medicaid which will take her entire income which is already fixed. Because of the loss of Medicare my mom and my aunt who shared a home are losing their home and my aunt has to move to a senior living apartment which she is currently on wait lists for.

The entirety of my mom's fixed income is being taken for her care at the rehabilitation center she's in and my aunt, who is 75 years old, is also on fixed income which she supplements by doing Grubhub but she hasn't been able to work much because she spends a lot of her time at the rehabilitation center keeping my mom company, which she needs to keep her mental health on a good track. Myself and my brother are helping as much as we can financially but we cannot stay ahead of this now that she's lost her Medicaid.

My mom has always been a fighter and she will continue to be a fighter but the stress of not knowing how to keep her therapies and her bed in the facility she needs to be in on top of the stress of losing her home is taking her focus away from her recovery.

I'm asking for help to pay the outstanding charges from the facility and to help my Aunt with the costs of moving into a new home.
