Our Story
My name is Jenn, and I am a full-time single mom to an amazing little boy. His dad is not in the picture, so it’s just the two of us, and right now we are facing one of the hardest challenges of our lives: homelessness. We are in the process of applying for Emergency Assistance (EA) housing, but until our case is approved, we have no safe and consistent place to stay which has made paying for bills difficult. Our only family that we have are my parents who are facing their own financial and health struggles as well. They have helped us with what they can in the past and we are forever grateful but that help is no longer available so we are in a tough spot as a result.
I live with several chronic health conditions that make daily life a struggle. I experience chronic pain from bursitis and IT band syndrome, and I also have chronic venous insufficiency from May-Thurner syndrome. This causes weakness, swelling, and pain in my legs, which gets worse if I stand or sit for longer periods than just ten minutes or so, making working especially difficult right now. I am also required to use a CPAP machine each night and rely on hearing aids to communicate — both of which mean my son and I need safe, adequate housing.
Even with these challenges, I’m pushing forward: I’m currently in college, working toward becoming a Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA). After that, my goal is to continue my education to become a Doctor of Physical Therapy (PT), so I can create a stable future for us and help others in their healing journeys.
My son also has health needs. He suffers from chronic tonsillitis, which caused him to be sick nine times just last school year. He is scheduled for surgery this November, and it’s so important that he has a safe and stable environment where he can heal and continue to thrive.
We are turning to the kindness of others to help us cover our basic needs while we wait for housing placement. Any donation, big or small, will help us stay on top of bills during this difficult time and give us the chance to move forward toward stability, health, and a brighter future.
With gratitude,
Jenn & Son
