Hello, my name is April and I never thought that this would happen to us, but here we are. My husband Jeff was taken to the hospital by ambulance on 7/10/24 and was admitted on 7/11/24. On 7/12, he was moved to the ICU and intubated to a ventilator! He was diagnosed with GBS (Guillain-Barré Syndrome), an autoimmune disease that's absolutely devastating. It attacked his neuromuscular and respiratory systems! We've been told that the recovery can be between 6 months to 1 year, but possibly up to 3 years, and we don't know if he's ever going to recover 100%. Scared is an understatement! Going from being a two-income household to just one has presented me with many challenges, and unfortunately, his job at the time didn't provide health insurance, so we have hospital and medical bills piling up as well as household bills. Many days I feel defeated; however, I'm trying to remain positive that we will get through this! On October 7th, he was moved to the hospital's inpatient rehab unit to begin the much-needed PT and OT to recover. He has to relearn how to walk, write, and feed himself. I'm hopeful that he's going to fully recover, but in the meantime, we need help.
