Jeff and Melinda were on a family trip to Europe when an unexpected tragedy took place. Melinda Comrie had lost the pregnancy after almost 5 months carrying and was taken to a French ER. To protect Melinda's life a surgical procedure was completed. Melinda's procedure went poorly and she stayed in the ICU later than expected due to complications. Her family stayed with her in France and medical bills, transportation, hotels, and food expenses were expanded due to the delay.

Original Post by Jeff: Took the family on a trip to Europe, plus Brian and Amber Wells to assist with our young boys. Been gone for 3 weeks, with an expected additional week as we had planned. We rented a 9 passenger diesel van and have explored to our hearts content!

We had a wonderful time in Paris, Belgium (Bruges / Ghent), Normandy, Loire, and finally Chamonix. The Belgian and French food and culture here is beyond expectation - rich. The whole trip has been truly joyful until we reached Chamonix. It is with tremendous grief that we had discovered under difficult conditions in a French ER that Melinda Comrie had lost the pregnancy after almost 5 months carrying.

Despite family and friends the world over praying for us including ourselves being in a passionate pursuit of prayer, the baby remained lifeless through several ultrasounds. To protect Melinda's life we immediately opted for a surgical remedy as there were considerable and dangerous complications for the miscarriage as we had discovered - the baby had likely been lost for some time - we don't know.

Melinda's procedure went poorly. We were supposed to leave Europe later this week, but this does not appear possible, she is in ICU at a hospital near Chamonix, and it appears she will be here for a few days more with probably a large allotment of time for her travels home due the blood lost and amount of damage her body has to recover from.

This has been a difficult end to a wonderful journey, one we had saved for 5 years to be to do. We leave behind the remains of our tiny child in a French memorial garden, this aspect of the circumstance has ravaged my soul.

Please keep us in your prayers. We feel God's peace and assurance despite the pain, but we very much look forward to being able to travel home where we can grieve our loss in peace. Thank you.
