RoJeanne and Jasmin's Medical Crisis

Jasmin Floyd was diagnosed with fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva (FOP) at a young age. This disease occurs in just one in one million people worldwide and is caused by a mutation in the ACVR1 gene. FOP flares cause muscles, tendons, and ligaments to gradually ossify and turn to bone, eventually trapping the person in a second skeleton, grossly limiting movement. There is no cure for FOP.

Jasmin has been navigating this disease for nearly her entire life, doing so with her mom, RoJeanne Doege, by her side. Being primarily bed-bound for roughly the last five years, Jasmin has not been able to leave her home and relies on private caregivers to assist her in nearly every daily function of life. She recently spent 4 months in the hospital being treated for an FOP flare-up, and her mother never left her side; RoJeanne assisted with and advocated for the specialized care her daughter requires to maintain her quality of life.

Now RoJeanne is facing her own medical crisis. She was recently diagnosed with adenocarcinoma. These two women have faced so much trauma already, doing so with amazing grace and dignity. It is inconceivable that they will now have to navigate the trauma of cancer. And all of this is happening so soon after they finally settled back in their own home following Jasmin's hospitalization, and right as the "most wonderful time of the year" is upon us.

I understand my ask is large. We all have tremendous financial obligations, and Christmas stretches the budget even more. My hope is that we can rally as a community and hold these dear women in our hearts. Any monies donated, large or small, will be greatly appreciated. We cannot fathom the fear and unknowns that RoJeanne and Jasmin are being forced to face, but perhaps in the spirit of Christmas, we can all do a small part to ease the financial burden.
