Aid Jared and Lakaila's Family Amid Government Shutdown

Our family, Jared, Lakaila, Jaden(6) and Ava(4) are in the middle of a major military move (PCS) from Maryland to Japan at the end of October. Normally, this would be an exciting transition and a chance to start fresh overseas while continuing to serve our country, but the ongoing government shutdown has completely turned our plans upside down.
Because of the shutdown:
- Our tenants, who are also military, were told they can’t move from their current duty station, leaving us responsible for our U.S. mortgage while we’re overseas.
- One household income is currently suspended, and the other income will be lost due to our move.
- Our household goods are being packed up soon, which means we’ll be without our furniture and essentials while facing uncertainty about our move timeline.
- There is no back pay for housing during or after the shutdown, meaning we’ll be paying nearly $3,000 per month on an empty home until our tenants are able to move in.
We’ve always worked hard to stay financially responsible with budgeting, saving, and planning ahead for this move, but this unexpected situation is stretching us past our limits. Between loss of income, overlapping housing costs, travel expenses, and delays in pay and benefits, we’re doing everything we can to stay afloat and keep our children stable during this transition.
Any donation, big or small, will go directly toward:
- Covering our mortgage and utilities until the shutdown ends
- Paying for temporary lodging that may extend what the government allows during our move.
- Meals and other essentials
