My name is Lindsay and I am one of James' older sisters. On behalf of James and the immense support we have felt from his friends and our families, we feel encouraged to share his story.

On March 2nd, during a family snowboarding trip to Ragged Mountain, James suffered a bad luck fall, that has left his future uncertain.

James recently began snowboarding as a new hobby, seeking a way to enjoy life outside of work and connect with his niece and nephews. During his first season, he eagerly shared his excitement for this new adventure, embracing the joy of riding and spending time outdoors. His "fit" was top priority and he was certain he had nailed it with his new gear; he was ready and excited for hitting the slopes. James and my son Thatcher (13) quickly got ahead of the group and were already on their way up the chair lift for their second run down a modest green trail. Thatcher recalls James asking if the conditions were tricky or if he had suddenly gotten a lot worse at boarding and asked for some advice on how to handle the terrain. The day was very cold and the trails were a bit icy, but typical for early March. The rest of the story occurred around a bend, and I think with God's grace, out of Thatcher's sight, but 'Uncle' was quickly discovered on his back in the middle of the trail, unconscious, helmet in tact and bleeding from the ears and nose. Thatch had to make the difficult call to me, to try to report the situation, the best way a 13 year old could. Glen would be by their side in a matter of 10 minutes, but ski patrol already had things under control.

Given his injuries, the position in which he was found, and the surrounding environment, we believe James simply caught an edge on his board. Plain bad luck. He did not crash into anything, or anyone. He was geared up with all of the proper safety equipment, but we think he hit his face first... more bad luck. His injuries include a broken T7 vertebrae, an occipital fracture, a broken nose, and a brain-shearing traumatic brain injury (TBI).

The road to recovery will be long and difficult. James will require extensive TBI rehabilitation, and due to the severity of his injuries, he will be unable to work for an extended period of time. With the mounting medical bills and the uncertainty of what the future holds, we are looking for support to help ease the financial burden that he is facing.

Our family has been overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support from friends, family, and even strangers. Many have reached out asking how they can help, and we have been encouraged to create this GoFundMe to provide an opportunity for people to show their support during this incredibly challenging time.

While we remain hopeful and are holding on to faith, the reality is that his recovery may not return him to the life he once knew. We truly appreciate any contribution, whether it’s financial, emotional, or simply sharing this with others. Every bit helps, and we are grateful for the kindness and generosity shown to our family.

On Sunday, March 16th, James was transferred from the NH hospital to Boston, where he can have more familiar interactions with family and friends.
