Aid in Richard's Recovery Journey
Donation protected
My name is Ruben Resendiz and I'm creating this GoFundMe page to ask for your support. In December 2024, while visiting family in Texas for the holidays, my brother-in-law, Richard Gutierrez, was involved in an accident while working on a vehicle. The vehicle backfired and Richard caught on fire, leaving second and third degree burns to his hands, shoulder, leg, chest, and abdomen. He also received flash burns to his face and neck.
Richard is currently residing with relatives and commuting to the burn center in Texas for continued treatment. He is receiving burn monitoring and therapy services. He has undergone two surgeries including ReCell and skin grafts. Richard is on a slow road to recovery but has experienced many setbacks which has extended his journey. Richard's stay in Texas has been extended by another three months due to unexpected obstacles. During one of his procedures, Richard's shoulder was damaged, and he is now requiring additional procedures in the future for his shoulder. Richard's chest has not been healing correctly and the doctors determined Richard's body is rejecting the ReCell. The ReCell to Richard's abdomen got infected, so Richard was required to receive skin grafts to his abdomen. The doctors are also going to try intense laser treatment to assist in the healing process.
Richard's wife, Becky Resendiz-Gutierrez, and his daughter, Isabella, have been by his side from the beginning of his journey until a short time ago when Isabella had to return home for work. Becky has been forced to leave many responsibilities behind in Crookston. Additional stress has been added to the Gutierrez family as a result of their absence, when all they should have to focus on is Richard's health and recovery. Becky is working on getting Richard transferred to the burn clinic in Minneapolis, so that Richard can be closer to his family and friends in Minnesota.
We are asking the community to please donate to Richard and his family to help them through this trial as medical expenses are continuing to build. We all pray for Richard's return home safe and healthy.
