This GoFundMe is being setup to assist with Karsyn's recovery after a sudden medical emergency which resulted in two brain surgeries.

 

After fighting off a continuous fever and headache for 15 days, Karsyn experienced her first seizure at home in Victoria, BC on Thursday (2/17/2022) afternoon. Karsyn then had a 2nd seizure in the hospital approximately 20 minutes later. Doctors in Victoria took a CT scan of Karsyn's head, later to find out she had a large abscess causing swelling in the front of her brain. Her mother, Kailah, was told they would be airlifted to BC Children's Hospital in Vancouver so Karsyn could get the surgery and help she needed; Karsyn was sedated and intubated. Her father, Marty, stayed behind to find arrangements for their other 1 year old daughter and would follow shortly after via BC ferries who were able to assist his speedy arrival by escorting him to the front so he could be first on the ferry and first off.

 

Once they arrived at BC Children's hospital, Karsyn received an MRI, where doctors found a 2nd infection growing on the back right side of her brain. This area they were told was more tricky and the infection was on her brain and not above the protective layer.

 

In the last 34 hours Karsyn has received 2 major surgeries- first to the front of the brain then late the following night to the back. The surgeons and nurses are happy with how the surgeries went and she has started to move her arms and legs. She will open her eyes for a short second and she will respond to doctors requests when stimulated. Her left side body movements are slightly delayed but Doctors have high hopes that with time she will improve.

 

Her parents will continue to stay at BC Children's Hospital while Karsyn receives all the proper pain meds, antibiotics and recovery treatment that she needs which will become quite difficult as they will both be off work and away from home to do so. We have created this GoFundMe in order to help with any expenses incurred from having to find living arrangements/accommodations in Vancouver for the next 4 weeks or longer, as well as any possible therapy that Karsyn may need down the road.
