Aid Helga Wahl's Recovery & New Start

My name is Amy Patton. I'm creating this GoFundMe to help Helga Wahl. Her daughter Katherine and I are hoping to rally some support for Helga during a really difficult time.

Helga was injured in a horrible car accident during the first week in May. She was taken to ECMC by ambulance. She suffered several broken ribs, contusions, a large open wound to her arm, and a bruised adrenal gland. She is receiving ungoing care with home nursing and recovery will be long and slow. While we're so grateful she survived, the 3-month-old car she shared with her daughter has been totaled, and their family is now without a vehicle. Insurance will hopefully cover the loan, but she has lost her $4,300 trade-in and her $1,000 cash deposit.

To make matters worse, Helga had been diagnosed with early Parkinson's Disease in February. She was in the process of preparing for her future needs by looking for a new apartment that would be handicap accessible and on a first floor. She was already facing several thousand in moving expenses and a new apartment deposit when the car accident occurred. Like many elderly people, Helga has been struggling silently while been living "paycheck to paycheck". These new financial issues are overwhelming her.

At the age of 80, she does not have means to supplement her income, pay all of her bills, replace her vehicle, and pay future moving expenses, all while recovering from her injuries, so she desperately needs a helping hand.

As a teacher, friend, and neighbor, she has always been the first to help others but never one to ask for help herself. It is our greatest hope that the generosity of her community of friends can help her through this dark time. All proceeds raised will go toward a replacement vehicle, any medical bills, moving costs to a handicapped accessible home and any additional living expenses.
