On Sunday May 18th, 2025 the world lost one of its best and brightest. After a week of battling congestive heart failure, low platelets, and a bad aortic valve at McLaren Bay Regional Medical Center, Thomas Edward Donald (age 56) of Roscommon, Michigan was called home to Heaven.
He is survived by his loving wife and soulmate, Heather Wagar-Donald, and five children Alissa Maier (Vilseck, Germany), William Wagar (and Mackenzie Havlik; Cadillac, Michigan), Jason Donald, Megan Donald, and Connor Donald (Roscommon, Michigan).
He is preceded in death by both parents, Edward and Mary Shivas-Donald, and adoptive father, Thomas Wellington Coe, as well as brothers Jamie and Scott.
Out of all of the things in his life, Thom was most passionate about his family and the life he’d built for himself. He is an avid hunter and fisherman, who also enjoyed working on his farm and was known for his many DIY projects. He is remembered as one of the most intelligent and kind people you will ever meet. And despite always saying he “hated” people, his favorite thing was to make everyone laugh. His determination and perseverance lives on in his son, Jason. His intelligence and hunger for knowledge in his son, Connor. His respect and selflessness in his son, William. His creativity and faith in the world in his daughter, Megan. And his humility and loyalty lives on in his wife, Heather. He may be gone, but he made sure to instill all of his best qualities into the people he loves.
The truth is, Thom’s income covered the majority of his family’s living expenses for the last 13 years that they’ve been living in Roscommon. Three of his children are still living at home, two of which are still attending school in some form. Thom’s wife, Heather, works a full time job but even with her income, the expenses following Thom’s death have created some financial worry for his family.
All donations made to this page will go towards keeping the Donalds on their feet during this time of grief and mourning, helping to keep their lights on and bellies full. In lieu of flowers, please also consider donating to Thom’s favorite charities: Mission 22 Service Dogs and the Gary Sinise Foundation.
