Dear friends and family,
As many of you know, our pets are everything to us, and this past month has been particularly challenging emotionally and extremely costly for our family.
Our sweet cat Winston was struck by a car near our home. We found him in critical condition and rushed him to the ER, where he underwent several examinations and immediate life saving measures before being referred to a specialty vet. Winston suffered a fractured jaw and skull, a tracheal tear, lacerated tongue and mouth, and proptosis (displacement of his eyeball) leading to lost vision in one eye. His treatment has included a lengthy (and ongoing) ICU stay, multiple scans and evaluations, the placement of a feeding tube, and the placement of an emergency catheter due to stress-related complications. Once his is in a better physical condition, he will also have to get his eye removed through surgery.
Sadly this wasn't our only pet emergency. A few weeks earlier, our dog Stubbs was unexpectedly attacked by another dog, necessitating an emergency visit to the veterinary ER. Thanks to incredible doctors, he’s now nearly fully healed.
We’re fortunate to have pet insurance, but even with that in place, between the emergencies for Stubbs and Winston, our vet expenses have reached extreme totals. In addition to emergency veterinary costs, we expect additional costs for pain medication, rehabilitation, future procedures, and items to ensure Winston is comfortable and heals well.
We deeply appreciate any support you’re able to offer, and we do not expect anything. The kindness and support we’ve already received have meant the world to us. Sharing our story or keeping Winston in your thoughts is equally appreciated.
Its a long road ahead, but Winston is a fighter and we’re so proud of him. The vets are predicting that he will make a near full recovery within several months and we are hoping for the best.
Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts,
Brett and Elodie
