I'm Rosa, a teacher from London with Polish heritage. I am raising funds for a generator and aid for people I have met in Ukraine.
When Putin launched his full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, I decided to spend my school holidays in Poland driving refugees - women and children - from the border to places of safety. I drove more than 7000km in nine days which was emotionally and physically demanding; but reflecting on the experience of my Polish grandfather as a refugee in the Second World War made me focus on the task at hand.
Since those trips, I have kept in touch with many of the Ukrainians I met and raised more than £1000 of aid for Yuri, a Ukrainian paramedic I met while in Lviv, western Ukraine. This has funded, among other items, a heavy-duty gazebo, for use as a casualty clearing station, and a generator. Like almost all Ukrainian army personnel, Yuri is unpaid.
This Easter, one year on, I plan to return to western Ukraine and deliver more humanitarian aid to individuals I have met. This is where you can help!
With your donations, I will buy and deliver from Warsaw the following:
1) At least one petrol generator for use in a "point of invincibility" (a place of shelter for people affected by power outages). It costs around £800 for a 2kW generator and £2500 for a 7kW one.
2) Power banks
3) Rechargeable batteries
4) Long-life food
5) Blankets
6) Thermal socks and gloves
If it is not safe to travel to western Ukraine, I shall arrange delivery of the aid. The Polish NGO Women take the Wheel (Kobiety za Kółko) will cover the cost of petrol and I shall fund other travel costs myself.
