Aid for Tommy's Parents Facing Hardships
Donation protected
My name is Jan Ford and several years ago, I met an angel by the name of Tommy Jones. I came to know and admire him for not only his generous soul of helping whoever needed help in his community, but since I reside in Virginia, he was even open to helping my husband and me with a family farm issue in Tyrone, GA. From that time, we grew to know Tommy as an ex-Marine, previous owner of a moving company, pool player, and teacher extraordinaire! But also a jack of all trades that felt moved to always help his fellow man no matter what.
Through a series of unfortunate events (serious complications from COVID, a stroke, too many hospitalizations to count, and health-related crises), Tommy survived but went from an ex-Marine to surviving his health challenges with perseverance and has required total nursing care for the past 2 years. He has one beloved daughter, Madison, who is 14 years old and being raised by Tommy’s parents. Tommy’s ex-wife and Madison’s mother suddenly passed away 12/2/2023 and left Madison with no other close family to live with and depend on. This couple is now facing hardship as they have to move by May 31 with granddaughter Madison and they need your help.
They are the reason for this GoFundMe account. If Tommy was able, he would be the one to help his family, as he did for so many others when he was healthy. Tommy’s parents, Roberta (Bobbie) and Tom, raised both their sons to work hard and give generously to others, as they did. Sadly, Bobbie and Tom lost their other son in a tragic car accident several years ago and now live with the fear of never knowing how their other son’s health outcomes will be.
Bobbie and Tom have lived at the address in Brooks, GA for the past 17 years and improved it as they paid their landlord on time every month. They thought and hoped that they would continue to reside in a home that they loved and cared for as if it were their own. Unfortunately, their landlord has decided to sell and given them 30 days to move. So while Tommy is once again in the hospital, Bobbie and Tom face yet another crisis about where they can live and keep Madison in her school and still monitor Tommy’s care in Griffin, GA hospital and nursing home. Fortunately they have found a place they can rent about 45 miles away but need help with deposits; moving expenses; utility deposits; etc. They will have barely enough with their Social Security to pay rent much less all the expenses with relocation; as well as helping Madison and Tommy.
Those of us who know and love Tommy and his family want to help get them establish a stable housing situation and hopefully to eventually put a down payment on a small 2-3 bedroom home and extra funds to help them stabilize during the next year. The older couple live on Social Security benefits alone and Tom has his own health challenges now. Bobbie spends most of her time raising Madison and monitoring Tommy’s care. She has tried multiple avenues for affordable housing (local realtors, churches, social services, etc.) but only this one option 45 miles away has no surfaced to date. The deposits or downpayments are more than they have or can raise. Up until 2 yrs. ago, they were raising Madison and caring for Tommy in the home until his health required a higher level of care.
I am hoping that you feel moved to help them with anything you can spare and if you live in Spaulding Co., GA and have any information that might help them find a place in the next month, you can reach out to me and I will forward it on to them. Your entire donation (other than the small percentage that GoFundMe charges) will be given directly to this family to secure housing and help them have one less thing to worry about. Please help however you can; they have spent a lifetime helping others and ask for nothing. Those of us who know them are asking for them because they are proud and prayerful.
Thank you for any way you can help! All of us who know and love this family express our gratitude for you.
