Recently, our family received devastating news relating to my foster brother, Tommy Allman and his wife, Anve. Battling cancer for some time now, Anve has been notified she will soon lose this battle against an aggressive Stage IV metastatic cancer. Meanwhile, Tommy has been diagnosed with leukemia in addition to his years-long struggle with chronic Crohn's disease. My name is Alisa. I grew up in a bustling household where my incredibly generous mother raised 6 children and opened our hearts and home to three foster boys. Tommy was one of these boys, whose childhood was marked by immense hardship, including the tragic loss of his mother to cancer when he was very young.
Years later, Tommy (now 50) met and married Anve (now 54), an extraordinary woman originally from China. Since their marriage in 2010, they've built a loving home and welcomed their wonderful son, Jayven, who is now 14 years old. Both Tommy and Anve have poured endless love, guidance, and encouragement into Jayven, who is bright, talented, and full of potential.
Anve has courageously navigated the complexities of life in a new country, overcoming language and cultural barriers to consistently support and champion her son. Tragically, her health has declined to the point where she will soon enter hospice care and can no longer work.
With no extended family nearby, Tommy, Anve, and Jayven face immense challenges. I live across the country, and my mother—who has always been a pillar of support—is now struggling with dementia, severely limiting her ability to help.
Tommy and Anve live modestly, with an outstanding mortgage balance of $37,000. Their combined incomes previously sustained their household, but now, with both parents seriously ill and Anve unable to work, their financial situation has grown dire. If Tommy's condition worsens and he can no longer work, their home—and Jayven’s stability—will be at risk.
To help them through this heartbreaking situation, I've initiated a fundraising effort to cover mounting medical bills and, importantly, to ensure Jayven does not face homelessness during this unimaginably difficult time.
