Aid for Thrasher and Family After Fire

My name is Karol Hernandez and on Friday, April 11th, 2025, my mom and sister received a call that their home was on fire. As my mom was at work and my sister at school, we all panicked at the thought of our dog Thrasher, who was home trapped in the fire. I, being the closest to the home, rushed in hoping to save Thrasher from the fire. As I got there, the firefighters, EMT, and police officers were helping Thrasher to get oxygen to help him breathe as he inhaled all the smoke from the fire for about 15-30 minutes. The firefighters put Thrasher in my car and I rushed to the nearest vet as he was still struggling to breathe and very unresponsive. We thank God that Thrasher was not severely injured and is having a calm recovery.

My family and I lived in our home for more than 12 years and it was very devastating that in a matter of minutes we lost our home where we had created many memories. The fire started due to an electrical outlet that spontaneously sparked, catching the kitchen and dining room on fire. With the fire, the smoke traveled upstairs and throughout the house, damaging all of our personal belongings. In order to control the fire and smoke, the firefighters had to break the ceiling in various areas.

We are very thankful that no one was injured and Thrasher, our family pet, is still alive. Unfortunately, we are unable to return to our home and it has been very hard for us to get through our belongings. As the oldest daughter, I am asking for support and help for my mom and sister who have been working very hard to move forward with their lives. My sister has medical expenses from helping Thrasher recover from the fire that included oxygen therapy, antibiotics, eye creams for irritation from the fire, and pain medication. My mom and sister have also lost most of their furniture and belongings as the firefighters were throwing everything outside.
