Aid for the Parris family to recover from Hurricane Helene!

Wow! We're in Western North Carolina with no water, no electricity, and spotty signal. They're saying weeks until we get power. The power poles to our house washed down our creek that turned into a raging river and flooded all the way to the hill where our house sits.

The poles landed on the bridge that we just spent thousands putting in. It's our only way in or out. The bridge was decimated. But we are alive and well.

It's been very hard on my 85 year old hubby where he is getting dementia. But he's holding up. He's been here 50 years and I've been here over 25 and never have we experienced anything like this. Wondering how 2 old people get help with things when there are so many in need. We were some of the lucky ones.

Thankfully, we moved our car to a neighbor's house. I worry about hubby. He just had a bone scan and his bones are so brittle they could break just when walking.

Given the conditions here, I still feel really blessed. No landslides from the mountain which is our back yard and we are surviving. We could have been one of those who lost loved ones. Our inconveniences don't even compare to that.

Think of those of us in Western NC and send up prayers if you would. We never know when a disaster will hit anyone one of us.

In need of day laborers and bridge repairs.

New Update!

Finally got power back and cell service which is still a little iffy. No Internet yet, but we made it through this challenging week. The bridge is still a major issue, but one day at a time. We are blessed by all of your prayers, assistance and offers of assistance. We still have challenges ahead due to the storm, but God has supplied our needs thus far.

UPDATE! So, we have a few updates! I know it's been a while but we have all been very busy. My Aunt Gina and other family members put together some labor and other donation funds to replace the porch steps going into my parents house. The steps were sinking into the ground made lot worse by Helene and the rails were falling apart. We are still waiting on aid from FEMA(if they decide to help) and the donations from here to fix the bridge. We are currently able to drive over it very carefully but it's still dangerous and is limiting. So, for now we continue to wait and hope for any additional assistance (FEMA, Funds, and/or labor). Thanks everyone for all you have done and continue to do!
