Aid for the Mokhtari-Petersen Family's Recovery
Donation protected
After the Mokhtari/Petersen family reunited in California this July, reuniting their three daughters after a decade apart, they tragically lost everything in the devastating January 7th wildfires. Beyond the walls and furniture, they lost irreplaceable treasures that embodied their Iranian heritage. Vintage family photos from the 1920s and 40s, traditional wedding rugs, their grandmother’s wedding dress, and precious paintings that connected them to their roots were all gone. These weren’t just objects; they were tangible links to their parents and the rich history of their family.
Now, this family of five, including their four cherished dogs, is temporarily residing in a friend’s one-bedroom home, grappling with the challenges of finding housing and replacing even the most basic necessities. While their hearts are heavy with the ache of losing these cherished memories, they find solace in the fact that they are together and safe. Any form of support would be invaluable in helping them rebuild their lives and find a new home where they can create new memories as a family.
As a family member also from Southern California, we are looking to help this family with funds for the following:
Immediate Needs:
- Temporary housing costs (hotel/Airbnb/short-term rental)
- Essential clothing for all five family members
- Basic toiletries and personal hygiene items
- Pet supplies and food for their four dogs
- Medical expenses (including the daughter's stress-induced facial condition)
Short-term Necessities:
- Security deposit and first month's rent for temporary housing
- Basic household items (bedding, towels, kitchenware)
- School supplies for their 15-year-old daughter
- Replacement of essential documents
- Basic furniture for temporary living
Long-term Recovery:
- Insurance deductibles and coverage gaps
- Replacing essential electronics (phones, laptops for work/school)
- Professional services (legal assistance, insurance navigation)
- Mental health support/counseling for trauma
- Moving expenses when they find permanent housing
