My name is Dezerei Rodriguez, I am 33 years old and a mother of 3 children. Last year, I chose to go back to school so that I could make better money and continue working to provide for my kids.
I decided get on birth control and 2 months later I found out I was pregnant with my third child.
My little miracle babi
I removed the birth control, and 8 months into my pregnancy, I began having complications with my blood pressure; it was super high. I was also told I had gestational diabetes.
If things weren't already bad, I was then told I had preclampsia and needed to deliver my daughter immediately as my health and hers could get worse the longer I stayed pregnant.
On 2/6/25, I gave birth to a beautiful little girl named Thalia.
I held my baby one time before I was told that they noticed she was making a "wheezing" sound with her breathing.
She was taken to the NICU where she remained for a week until we were told she would be needing care that they could not provide and Texas Children's in the Woodlands would be a better place for her.
The doctors there told us she had a heart murmur that was pretty big & was causing issues with her lungs; sending more blood than normal, causing fluid to build up in her lungs, which was causing her respiratory issues and would end up needing heart surgery.
My baby was not even a month old when we received the news. My heart sank. How can my newborn already need such a big surgery in such little time?
On March 13th, she was transferred to Texas Children's in downtown where they specialize in cardiology, and on March 14th, she had her surgery.
They placed a band on a part of her heart that causes the blood flow to her lungs. Everything went well, thank God. She was hospitalized for 2 more months.
The Dr said she would still have to have another surgery within 6 months of her life to close the hole in her heart. Which is a difficult task due to the hole being at the bottom of her heart.
In all this time since she's been born, we have had to pay for gas, far drives to clinics, hospital stays, and some repairs at home to make sure Thalia has a better living condition as our home is a old & in need of repairs.
i just started a job, doesnt pay too well like im use to. Pays every 2 weeks so its still hard.. any help to buy more neccecities for Thalia such as Diapers, wipeys etc. would be greatly appreciated. And to catch up on my rent. Currently behind $1100
And most importantly for her to live and enjoy a happy normal life.
Thalia is already being scheduled for her second open heart surgery in 3 months and will be in the hospital for a while once again.
She is now admitted to Tx childrens again to monitor her weight gain as she has lost some
If you could find it in your heart to help a family and baby in need id really appreciate it.
Thank you and God bless.
