Hi everyone, as many of you know, I’m half Moroccan. I lived in Morocco until I was almost five, and my father’s entire side of the family is still there. While they don’t live directly in Safi, they’re close enough to feel the impact of what happened yesterday. My cousin reached out because people in Morocco cannot create GoFundMe pages, and she asked me to help bring attention to this disaster and raise support for the families who were hit the hardest.

On Dec. 14th, 2025, the coastal city of Safi was struck by devastating flash floods after intense rainfall overwhelmed the region. In less than an hour, familiar streets became violent torrents. Water surged through homes, shops, and historic neighborhoods, tearing through doors, flooding living rooms, and trapping families as the current rose around them.

Local authorities have confirmed at least 37 lives lost, with many more injured. Entire families are now facing the painful reality of destroyed homes, lost belongings, and the trauma of surviving something so sudden and violent.

This GoFundMe will go directly to families on the ground and to community members who are organizing relief efforts with almost no outside support. It’s also meant to bring Western attention to what’s happening, because visibility truly matters. When the world is watching, authorities are far more likely to respond, improve infrastructure, and protect their citizens.
