My name is Erich Pilcher. This year has been a tough difficulty for me. I currently suffer from anxiety and depression. In 2017, I was BLESSED with getting an Emotional Support Animal named Rocky.

Although he was a rescue, he rescued me. He has been through a divorce, and his presence (along with amazing friends, family, and faith) has helped me battle through drug and alcohol addiction, as well as going through two years of therapy. He truly is more than a companion; he is my best friend and confidant.

On December 13, he began vomiting. I tried at-home remedies (light diet), and he did not improve. On Monday, I took him to the vet, and he was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver. This is terminal in dogs.

This has come at the worst time for me. I’m currently on workers' compensation, and that only pays a portion of my wages. While I’m thankful and it meets my needs, major emergencies like this are not good. His initial vet cost over a grand and had a major dent on my finances.

There are options I have available. I can pay for additional meds and testing or prepare for end of life. The cost for euthanization and cremation is nearly 500 dollars. For further treatment, it could be between 2000-3000.

For those that know me, know I hate asking for help. But during this time, I need to. If anything, the ability to, if need be, let my best friend go without pain would be great, or to treat him and add years to his life would also be a blessing.

When I’m able to, I most assuredly would pay it forward. I understand times are tough for everyone, and I appreciate just the consideration.

Thank you, and I hope you and yours have a Happy Holidays.
