Like many in Southern California, my long-time friends, Rick Doten and David Britt, have lost their home and everything they owned, in Altadena, in the Eaton Canyon fire. They shared the home with Rick's mom, Yollie (who turned 90 on January 10th), and their German Shepherd, Sugar.

Also, like many, they just celebrated the holidays in a warm family home, and now, literally, they have nothing. Their possessions filled HALF of a bellman's cart when they checked into a hotel.

They will get assistance from FEMA and help from the insurance company, but that can be days, weeks, or months in the future.

David, grew up as a Westside resident, as a skater, surfer, and metalhead rocker. For years, he has devoted his life to the 12-step communities.

Rick, (Father Rick to many), spent his life ministering to other’s needs, mentally and spiritually, and applying his design talents in the event industry and to home interiors, so like many of us, he has not been accustomed to asking for help for himself.

A colorful home, full of treasures and a garage bursting with other design elements have been reduced to ashes.

Rick and David are crying and laughing, at the same time, but are already resolute about moving forward.

I am helping them to set this up, and all the funds will go directly into their bank account so they can immediately purchase some necessities.
