Aid for Rhonda's Rehab After Accident

I have never created a Go-Fund me before, but the situation certainly calls for it. My mother & father are in a situation with medical insurance that is simply wrong. My name is Rebecca Montgomery, and I am raising funds for my mother’s rehabilitation after a head on-collision.
My parents, Rhonda & Robin Montgomery, were involved in a head on collision (no fault of their own) on 2/13/2025. My father broke his knee, 10 ribs, his arm, wrist, and fractured his hip. The most severe injury was his knee- the parking brake went directly through it. He was in the hospital a little over a month. Thankfully he has recovered and is walking again; this man has pain tolerance and speedy healing like you would not believe.
My mother on the other hand, remains hospitalized/in a care facility at this time. She fractured her neck, and broke her knee. 3 days later, while doing surgery on her neck, she experienced a stroke to her brain stem. Family was called in, as they were not expecting her to survive. Several hours later, she was pushing through. The sense of relief was overwhelming to her family, especially her husband (my dad)… However, she was not yet out of the water. She was having trouble breathing without a ventilator, so her medical team decided to perform a tracheostomy. The surgery went well (another sigh of relief). Later that evening, another turn for the worst, and her heart stopped beating two separate times. Her medical team saved her life both times. St John’s Mercy was such a blessing to her. After these two codes, she finally started to improve continuously. Weeks later, she was moved to a step-down type ICU at Missouri Baptist. She continued improving. Finally after almost 2 months, she was able to come to a swing-down unit in Ironton, MO (her hometown) for rehabilitation. This placed her only about 5 minutes from her husband, mother and many other family members and friends.
My mother is a walking miracle; you can ask any of the medical team that were by her side from St. John’s, and later Missouri Baptist; they could not believe how well she was doing considering her previous state and that she died twice (almost 3) times.
In proper fashion, insurance issues swept in to ruin everything! If you have ever had to deal with insurance issues like the ones I am about to describe, I sincerely pray for you because no one deserves to have to go through this.
My father worked his entire life, and provided for my mother and myself - he worked in Quality Control, and moved on to become Mold Shop Manager at Piramal Glass in Park Hills, Missouri. He worked there for almost 30 years and retired in 2021. My mom also worked her entire life and cleaned homes and businesses throughout and around Ironton from the time I was a small child until this wreck occurred. Both of them have never depended on others, or the government, or ANYONE to get by. They have worked hard for every penny they have earned. To see them possibly being stripped of everything is absolutely heartbreaking.
Getting back to the insurance issues… supposedly my mother and father “have too much money” to qualify for Medicaid, which has put an extreme limit on the facilities that she can go to. They have Medicare, but not Medicaid. Her funds through Medicare have ran out as of late April. Every facility that she goes to will now cost $6,000-$7,500 per month - OUT OF POCKET. Who has this kind of money?! How can anyone be expected to do this?
To say that they have “too much money” is laughable, frustrating, infuriating and downright wrong. The money that is being referred to is a 401k in which there is enough to support them to live exactly as they already do, until it is their time to pass. For the government and Medicaid to say that this family “has too much money” and has to pay out of pocket for medical issues that occurred to no fault of their own, is simply sickening. Imagine working your entire life, successfully retiring, only to have a head on collision (no fault) and then being told you have to drain every penny you have to pay for the medical expenses.
It. Is. Wrong.
My parents would both choke to death before they asked ANYONE for help. However, to see my dad getting so mentally broken down, anxiety through the roof, and just simply wanting a facility to take care of my mom, and his wife should not be something that is too much to ask from an insurance company. But since it is, I am going to ask for help for them.
Please, if you can donate anything to go toward my mother’s monthly rehabilitation, it would mean the world to this family. Every dollar helps. If we can just get her through another couple of months we are hoping she will be able to come home.
If you cannot donate, we totally understand and just ask for you to pray for my mom, Rhonda. She is the sweetest woman and would give anyone the shirt off her back, treats any child as her own, and is the most kindhearted person you could ever meet. Your support, no matter the kind, is forever appreciated.
