Aid for Otis

Donation protected
THANK YOU to all who have donated so far. Funds have covered almost half of her cost, which is truly a blessing for Donna. Donna adopted Otis and a senior dog. He was her constant shadow and a true companion, that she had hoped would have been with her longer. We will keep the site open a while longer. Please know that any amount of donation helps! Love to you all!

This is Dawn, a long-time friend of Donna's. You may have seen her post from last night about her beloved dog, Otis. I am sharing it below. They are unsure of what is causing the fluid, but have ruled out all the simple possibilities and will not know more until Monday after they are able to do the mri. He is resting now, but Donna is unable to stay with him and this is breaking her heart. The minimal cost of his stay will be close to $2500. Please consider if you can help in any way.

UPDATE 01.02.23: Otis crossed the bridge peacefully this afternoon. Thankfully Donna was at his side. He provided so much comfort for her, I am sure she was able to provide the same for him. He will truly be missed. Donna is resting and remembering, please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

"I’ve had better New Year’s Eves.
Long story short, it’s almost 4am, and I just got home from the emergency vet. Without Otis. About 9pm I noticed a sudden change with him and I thought maybe a seizure or a mild stroke. I waited about 40 minutes to see if he improved.

He didn’t, and I got him to the car and to the vet. The last two places I wanted to be tonight—on the roads and at the emergency vet.

The only thing we know is that he has fluid in his abdomen and was in some pain, but he is being treated for the pain, and the vet said they could keep him comfortable with that until the radiologist comes in on Monday to do an mri to see what is leaking fluid or has ruptured and causing the fluid. It doesn’t look good.

It was hard to come home without him but what makes me the most sad is that I hope he doesn’t think I’ve abandoned him. I asked the tech for a towel while I was waiting (5 hours, they were very busy) and put it under my shirt to absorb my scent. I gave it to the tech when I left and she said she would put it in his crate with him.

I’m gonna have a good cry now."
