Hi, my name is Angie. I'm here to ask for monetary help with my pet, a dog named Ollie. I adopted Ollie at 3 months old from SF ASPCA. He is now 11 years old. Since November 2024, I've spent over $600 taking Ollie to three different veterinary doctors: the SPCA, South Park Vets, and finally Vets n Vans.
The SPCA diagnosed Ollie with environmental allergies and prescribed expensive eye medication with refills. His eyes still haven't seen improvement . South Park Vets prescribed another expensive eye ointment, Optimune, to be applied twice daily. His allergies and eye redness still persist. His appointment at Vets n Vans was a few weeks ago. The vet diagnosed Ollie with a heart murmur. I described how he had been having fainting episodes where his left leg would lock up, he falls over, and when I pick him up, he just stares into space. These episodes last about 2-3 minutes. The doctor prescribed a medication called Vetmedin (Pimobendan), half a tablet twice daily. 50 of these meds cost $105. I ordered them from the source Vets n Vans suggested online, Covetrus, but found out later they could have easily sent the prescription to Costco pharmacy.
The vet also suggested Ollie have blood work and x-rays done. I relented and paid for the blood work. It appears it came back pretty good; he may need more tests done concerning his liver, but she wanted him to get started on the heart meds first. I'm a 70-year-old retired and on a limited income with no other outside help. I love ❤️ my pet to death, and since November of last year, I've maxed out the credit card for his pet care. Further x-rays and the cardiologist to read them is an expense I can't possibly afford. The vet suggested I contact SAGE. I sent them an email for help; it's been over 72 hours, and I haven't heard back. I'm going to make an appointment with SAGE and see if Ollie can be seen by their specialist at their facility and go from there. Any help anyone can give Ollie and I would really be appreciated.
