Honoring Nick Garcia
On October 4th, 1998, Nicolas Raven Garcia came into the world quickly but not without being ready to show the world how strong he was. Nicholas was born with undiagnosed spina bifida at San Bernardino County Hospital, a medical center that could not treat this condition. He took his first flight a few hours after being born, where he was medevaced to Lona Linda Hospital, where not even 12 hours old, he would be taken into a 5-hour surgery to close the hole in his back. He did so well in the initial surgery, that the doctors decided to do his skin grafts. A few days later, he had to have a shunt installed in the back of his skull. Nicholas went through 2 major surgeries in the first few days of his life, showing his strength to his family and the world.
This would begin a trend of Nick showing this strength, orthopedic surgeries on both feet, a new shunt, back surgery, knee surgery, and more. He couldn’t walk, but he still learned to play and move about in the world. He showed his strength in dealing with the strange looks he would get in school or with bullies who would try to take advantage of him. But his real strength was how gentle and kind he was despite everything he had gone through. His older brother teased him, but he wouldn’t fight back; not wanting to hurt anyone, he longed to see people smile.
He always wanted to make people smile and help those who needed it, a tendency that would make him feel sick even when there was nothing he could do about the situation. He was more than willing to give the shirt off his back or the food off his plate to friends in need, and he always strived to be someone those around him could rely on. Nicolas had an amazing laugh and smile, the kind of smile that would brighten up the room. Quick with a joke to draw you or anyone else in, and just as quick with the most amazing hugs that help chase your pain away.
Early on December 10th, Nicholas Raven Garcia sadly was taken from us due to unexpected health complications. Nicholas' departure has left a hole in his family, friends, and anyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
We, his family, are asking for your help to honor his life and aid in saying goodbye to our son, a brother, and friend who was the light of our lives. Any contribution, big or small, will help us ensure he's laid to rest with dignity, as well as allow us to have family and friends afford to visit him one last time. Any excess funds will be donated to the Sunrise Children’s Hospital in Las Vegas, where he received much care and support.
We would also like to collect any photos, videos, or favorite memories of Nick, to help remember and celebrate his life and the impact he made on ours.
Thank you for your love and support.
