A few days ago lightning struck, starting wildfires miles from my family's homes at Lake Berryessa. My family has been part of the Lake for almost 30 years.
My parents have evacuated and are staying at a hotel. The rest of my family is staying there to fight the fire and help their neighbors.
We are requesting assistance to offset the costs of:
- Emergency supplies and delivery of water, gas, and food
- Hotel room stays for my parents
- Lost wages as my sister, brother-in-law, nephew, and his girlfriend stay to help their neighbors through the fire
- A future need for a water tank and a generator
Any money received would not only help my family, it would help this community. Anything received over the amount will be donated to others.
Because my family's homes were not destroyed they will not qualify for a FEMA benefit. We are looking into other assistance options, though we do not know how long those will take or what assistance would be included.
There is no water or power and no schedule for when those might be restored. The water plant and miles of power lines have burned down. When the fires calm and my parents return they will need to keep a large water tank and may need to buy a larger gas generator to make their home habitable.
My nephew and his girlfriend, both volunteer firefighters and EMTs, cut fire lines to keep the fire from burning homes and they are still there working to help others. My sister and brother-in-law have been helping their neighbors move farm animals and sharing supplies ever since the fires started.
They are the most generous people I know. Please help them so they can continue to help others.
