Aid for Mora Family's Recovery Journey

Hello, my name is Melina Mora. On February 12th of this year, my family was struck with a horrible accident. My grandmother, auntie, and two younger cousins were driving at around 5pm when they were struck by a drunk driver who was driving in the wrong lane. My aunt, in an attempt to save my grandmother and her children, swerved and received most of the damage. My younger cousins, aged 9 and 11, both suffered injuries to the lower extremities of their bodies, my grandmother suffered from a torn aorta and a collapsed lung, and my auntie suffered the most. She had to receive over 16 surgeries and multiple bags of blood due to her internal bleeding and several broken bones. It has been roughly 3 months since the accident. My cousins and grandmother still struggle with their day to day lives. My cousins struggle to walk, due to their legs that are still healing from the crash and both attend physical therapy. My grandmother, who suffered from type two diabetes before the accident, is struggling with muscle spasms in her arms and legs, as well as major fatigue. She previously worked at a chicken plant but is now unable to work for about a year. As stated before, my aunt suffered the worse and she still does. Although it has been almost a month since she has been discharged from the hospital, she still cannot walk, feed herself, or do anything without someone else’s assistance. My family is suffering mentally and financially. My grandfather, my other auntie, and I have been doing our best to be there and take care of them. However, with the medical bills piling up, we are not sure what else to do. Please, help me and my family, with your donations. Hola, mi nombre es Melina Mora. El 12 de febrero de este año, mi familia sufrió un horrible accidente. Mi abuela, mi tía y dos de mis primos menores manejaban alrededor de las 5 p.m. cuando un conductor ebrio que iba en el carril contrario los chocó. Mi tía, en un intento por salvar a mi abuela y a sus hijos, giró el volante y recibió la mayor parte del impacto. Mis primos, de 9 y 11 años, sufrieron lesiones en las extremidades inferiores; mi abuela tuvo una cortada en la aorta y un pulmón colapsado, y mi tía fue la más afectada. Tuvo que someterse a más de 16 cirugías y recibir múltiples bolsas de sangre debido a su hemorragia interna y varias fracturas.

Han pasado aproximadamente 3 meses desde el accidente. Mis primos y mi abuela aún luchan con su vida diaria. Mis primos tienen dificultad para caminar debido a las lesiones en sus piernas que aún están sanando, y ambos asisten a terapia física. Mi abuela, que ya padecía diabetes tipo 2 antes del accidente, sufre espasmos musculares en brazos y piernas, además de una gran fatiga. Antes trabajaba en una pollera, pero ahora no podrá hacerlo durante aproximadamente un año. Como mencioné, mi tía fue la más afectada y aún lo está. Aunque ya lleva casi un mes fuera del hospital, todavía no puede caminar, alimentarse por sí misma o hacer nada sin la ayuda de alguien más.

Mi familia sufre mental y económicamente. Mi abuelo, otra tía y yo hemos hecho todo lo posible por estar ahí y cuidarlos. Sin embargo, con las facturas médicas acumulándose, no estamos seguros de qué más hacer. Por favor, ayúdenme a mí y a mi familia con sus donaciones. Cada aporte irá destinado a gastos médicos, terapias, modificaciones para accesibilidad y movilidad, así como gastos de manutención. Significaría muchísimo para nosotros en este momento tan difícil.
