Hello, my name is Amelia. I'm a 20-year-old college student and I'm creating this GoFundMe for my dad. His name is Mike and he had just turned 50 years old when life took a turn. It started with a small cut on his foot, which got infected and led to his below-the-knee amputation. It was flesh-eating bacteria and it had spread up to his leg. He was also diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, which we believe contributed to his infection.

My mom and I have been working, but my dad makes most of our money. I'm working part time and trying to finish college. My mom works full time and also takes care of him during his recovery, but it's not enough to take care of us all. The medical bills took so much of our money and we're finding it hard to keep up with bills, getting my dad's medication for diabetes and his amputation, and other expenses. His car has been having multiple issues, so we hope to use some of this money to get it fixed. The next steps will be my dad getting fitted for a prosthetic and therapy to learn to walk and drive with it. This process can take several months and would be costly.

During all of this we are using our savings to deal with daily expenses, bills, and groceries. But we have also had some unexpected repairs to the house and car, which have depleted our resources faster. We're hoping to make some modifications to our house to make it more disability-friendly for my dad.
