Hello, my name is Steve Cappas and I am trying to raise funds to help cover some of the medical costs of my pure bred siberian husky, Michaeleen Oge Flynn. I hate even asking for help but I could really use some right now.
On Wednesday April 8th 2026, around 7:22pm my poor puppy was hit by a car in a freak accident. He's a great dog, and was 100% healthy until he was hit by a car unfortunately. My boy usually is well mannered and behaved and tends to be a local celebrity in our neighborhood (@michaeleenthehusky) around Staten Island, NY.
Around the time of the accident, my niece and girlfriend were playing with him when he decided to slip out the gate before hand while I was taking out some garbage. I tried to get him to come back in like he normally does until he didn't and decided to wander really quick. I was focused on trying to get him back in the yard, and a car doing the more than local speed limit struck him spinning him around and in process doing damage to his chest cavity, giving him a collapsed lung, a gash under his mouth, some pretty bad road rash from the concrete, as well as some muscle damage to his back leg. The entire situation was scary. Reluctantly, the driver had stopped after hearing the bang and my dog screaming from the impact...... The bang alone sent chills up my spine and my family didn't even know what to do until we rushed him to a emergency vet hospital.
To say the least was we didn't know what to expect and ended up getting hit with a $2000 bill up front in order to do medical tests, emergency tap on his chest, exrays, etc. and another $800 as we were leaving was insane, and we couldn't afford to keep him over another night because it was another $700 roughly to do that. Having a collapse lung for an animal is rough, along with muscle damage, and some pretty good scrapes from the concrete after being hit by a car. Unfortunately, he is now resting home with us peacefully being monitored but is not out of the woods yet. You can see it in his eyes, the anxiety and the fear, feeling vulnerable but we had to bring him back so he could rest up before we start bringing him back for more medical checkups considering his lung did collapse, and there was air in his chest cavity. Between his prescriptions and worrying potentially about other stuff, he's on close house arrest so to speak because he can't even play or run around at the risk of his lung not healing right. Imagine that? Being a dog with unconditional love and you can't even be a dog because you could make it worse before it gets better? It sucks.
We don't know how many times we need to bring him back, but he does need to go back for more x-rays which another $300-$400 and more tests over the next couple weeks and we can only pray his lung heals and works properly for him to breath and make a full recovery.
I don't like asking for help but between my family and I, we are dealing with a lot and we could use all the help we can get. Anything will help.
$2858 - is just up front costs alone, $858 still owed as of now
$1000-2000 - We are expecting at least another doctor visits maybe more we will not know until they happen. Does not include additional surgery outside what he already had done with his collapsed lung.
Please consider helping a great and beautiful dog that loves everyone even if he isn't apart of your family. A few of my friends who know and love him suggested making a gofundme so i'm giving it a try. All donations will be going to his current and potential upcoming bills from this accident.
