Matt Helling of Mount Angel, Oregon, unexpectedly fell seriously ill with complications from a strep infection and sepsis.

In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. 1 Peter 1:6-7

After a week in the hospital, he's been finally released home, yet still with no clear prognosis of how long his recovery back to functional health will take.

Matt and Amanda are blessed with 5 beautiful children: Sophia, Bailey, Jojo, Lucas and Sarah.

The family's unselfish commitment to many ministries at St. Mary Church has provided them with incredible prayer and meal support from their faith community throughout this trying time.

Matt is a man full of life with a deep love of Jesus Christ. He recently said he is learning what it actually means to offer one's suffering up for others through this experience, to those people he loves and to those people he does not even know.

As a working mother of 5 home-schooled children, Amanda has now also become Matt's primary caregiver during his recovery.

Throughout this ordeal, the Helling family each believe they are truly blessed!
